Cross Cultural Management: An International Journal
Comparing ethical attitudes across cultures
Randi L. Sims
Abstract
The current study compares the results of the Attitudes Towards Business
Ethics Questionnaire (ATBEQ) reported in the literature for samples from
Israel, South Africa, Turkey, the United States of America, and Western
Australia to a new sample from Jamaica, West Indies (n = 139). The results
indicate that while there are some shared views towards business ethics
across countries, significant differences do exist between Jamaica and
three of the other countries in the study. Although it was hoped that
Hofstedes Theory of International Cultures would aid in understanding the
similarities and differences uncovered between the sample countries, it
was found that this theory did not adequately explain the results found.
